Alpenfriede hotel information
All you need to know about your stay
Arrival TO SÖLDEN
The start of the Ötz Valley lies roughly in the middle between the Alberg pass and Innsbruck and can be reached by taking the 123 Ötztal exit from the A12 Inntal motorway.
Follow the Ötztal road for about 40km to Sölden. As there is only one road, you can’t miss Sölden!
From Sölden to Hochsölden
Just before the end of Sölden, the well-signed glacier road branches off uphill to the right. Follow this until you reach Hotel Alpenfriede at 2,090 metres. Carrying snow chains is compulsory on this road. Please make sure that you always have snow chains with you.
Your room will be ready for you from 2pm at the latest; possibly earlier depending on availability. If you wish to go skiing on your day of arrival, you are welcome to arrive in the morning. We’ll park your car and store your luggage for you and you can get on and enjoy the skiing. Breakfast on the day of arrival is possible until 10am (EUR 12,- per person).
If you are going to arrive late in the evening (after 6pm), we ask that you let us know as soon as possible. Often a call from you whilst you’re en route is also helpful so that we can discuss whether you’ll be in time for dinner or if you’d like us to prepare a cold platter for you.
We ask you to please vacate your room by 10.30am at the latest so that it can be cleaned thoroughly, ready for the next guests. However, if you’d like to depart before 8am, please let reception know by 7pm the evening before. You can settle your bill up until 9.30pm the evening before. Our kitchen team would be happy to prepare a small packed lunch for you for your journey home. Please collect your skis and boots from our ski cellar and don’t forget to take your car keys from reception.

Hochsölden in the Ötz Valley – 2,090 metres above sea level.
A handful of hotels, a small chapel, a ski hut, two sports shops and a ski school: There is no more to Hochsölden than this, and yet it is so much more than just this. You won’t find a better place than Hochsölden for an uncompromising skiing holiday. Just step outside the door and you are already in the Sölden/Hochsölden ski resort. 150 kilometres of pistes, skiing on three mountains which are all over 3,000m, 2 glaciers and many other highlights – from the funpark to spectacular runs with descents of up to 2,000 metres altitude difference await you here in Sölden and Hochsölden. Here there really is something for everyone, whether beginner or advanced.
Everything you need is available in Hochsölden: whilst Hochsölden is only a small village, it is perfectly geared towards the needs of its guests who seek both skiing fun and pure relaxation. The ski school and sports shops are all within walking distance of Hotel Alpenfriede on the ski slopes. Another advantage: Action in the day, peace and quiet at night. You won’t find wild parties and après ski up here. Hochsölden consciously shuts itself off from all this hustle and bustle as it is a place for passionate skiers and snowboarders who are simultaneously seeking relaxation and an undisturbed idyll. This means every skier and snowboarder has guaranteed peace and quiet in the hotel and can start the next day well rested. If you do fancy a party and a bit of après ski, there’s plenty to be found in the village of Sölden.
An idyllic circular winter hiking trail starts in Hochsölden and leads past an unspoilt landscape in the direction of Gampe Thaya via a mountain path and back to Hochsölden again along the summer downhill track. Naturally we offer regular guided snowshoe hikes – just ask at reception – a winter experience not to be missed!
ICEQ MOUNTAIN RESTAURANT
Unique: the modern architecture with local materials, top cuisine and a direct suspension bridge to the summit. In conjunction with the Gaislachkogl lift, the new culinary meeting point at the summit is a multifunctional and completely barrier-free gourmet experience at 3,048 metres!
The Ice Q on the Gaislachkogel is a special upscale restaurant with “alpine cuisine”, viniculture, 94 seats inside, terrace seating for 34 and a rooftop sun terrace.
The design was masterminded – just like the design for the three cable car stations – by the renowned Tyrolean Obermoser architectural office. The glass façade opens up new perspectives of the primeval Ötz Valley mountain landscape and makes the building light and transparent – and turns the Gaislachkogl and the mountain station of the 3S triple rope gondola into probably the most architecturally impressive ski summit in Tyrol. Nobody is perfect – and we are not either; so it could happen, that despite our best efforts we have forgotten something. That is why we always welcome your constructive suggestions on what we could do even better.
Take a bit of Alpenfriede back home with you! Our Ignaz now completes our delectation on the bottle label – you ‘drink’ with your eyes too. But the man of the house is not only to be found on our red and white house wine. You can also purchase placemats, water jugs, tea towels, oven gloves etc. We have a small selection of special and delightful souvenirs to take home. All items are available from reception, while stocks last.
We have free Wi-Fi in our hotel. All you need to connect to the internet is your own device.
Choose the network Alpenfriede. If you are not automatically connected, enter it in the search bar at www.google.at. You will be asked to accept the terms and conditions on the following page. Then you will be redirected to our hotel’s homepage. Now you can work and surf the internet as you please.
We would like to point out that the strongest signal can be obtained at reception. It is therefore best to work in the foyer. The signal strength in the rooms depends on the number of people using the internet at the same time and unfortunately, occasionally also on the weather. Particularly at peak times between 4pm and 8pm, there can be limited internet reception in the whole of Hochsölden.
Have fun surfing.

JAMES BOND And SPECTRE
James Bond museum – 007 Elements
007 ELEMENTS: Sölden invites you to Tyrol’s most spectacular mountain summit experience.
On Gaislachkogl at 3,048 m, visitors experience an unprecedented highlight for film enthusiasts. The only one of its kind in the world: Where Daniel Craig was in front of the camera for the Spectre movie shooting, the James Bond Installation leads you deep into the cinematic universe of the planet's most famous Secret Agent. 007 ELEMENTS has implemented a captivating composition over 1300 m² spread over nine halls and chambers inside the mountain as well as the 230 m² outdoor plaza.
It would have been hard to choose a better natural setting for Ötz Valley's Bond world. The ascent in one of the world's most modern gondolas to the summit of the Gaislachkogl at 3,048m gets you tingling with suspense. The scenery will be very familiar to Bond fans. In the 24th Bond adventure, director Sam Mendes brought the incredible winter panorama of the Ötztal Alps, including the 3S gondola and ice Q Restaurant to the big screen. Inside the mountain, 007 ELEMENTS treats you to a brilliant overall experience. (Source: www.oetztal.com/presse)
You are welcome to take your dog into the café or the hotel bar in the afternoons and in the evenings after dinner. You are not allowed to take your dog into the dining room. Please make sure your dog has its own sleeping place in your room (under no circumstances on the hotel beds). If you don’t have a dog blanket with you we are happy to provide one. We charge EUR 14,- per day, without food.
Please wear whatever you feel most comfortable in - we don’t have a dress code. Of course, you can enhance the setting, particularly the evening meal, with your clothing. We look forward to it. No skiwear in the evening!
For legal reasons we are not allowed to give you any medication (not even aspirin). On request we are happy to bring you something from the pharmacy in Sölden (within 24 hours).
POSTCARDS & LETTERS
Postcards and stamps are available from the hotel reception and Intersport Glanzer.
Most postcards cost EUR 0.50 and the postage for postcards and standard letters from Austria to the EU is EUR 0.90. We are happy to charge your postcards and stamps to your room. Our postman usually comes sometime after 1pm Mondays to Fridays, and will, of course, be happy to take your “holiday greetings” with him.
Not enough space for your unpacked suitcases? Then please contact reception. We are happy to store your suitcase for the duration of your stay
We are a non-smoking hotel. Smoking is only permitted in the smoker’s area on the left behind the bar and of course, on the balcony of your room if it has one. That’s why there is an ashtray. Smoking in your room is obviously not permitted. We reserve the right to charge extra costs for a possible final cleaning if needed.
RESTAURANTS & HUTS
More than 20 rustic huts and around 10 large restaurants provide refreshment during your day's skiing. Many of them entice you onto their panoramic terraces in fine weather, some of which have magnificent views. Of course, you always have the option of eating lunch in Hotel Alpenfriede, which is right on the slopes in Hochsölden. We are bound to be able to give you tips for the right hut for you – just ask at reception.
Our reception is open for you from 8am to 9.30pm. After this time you will find us in the restaurant or the hotel bar where we are still working. We are therefore still happy to assist you with any queries. We would like to draw to your attention the fact that you can hand in environmentally harmful waste, such as batteries to reception.
The relaxation area is opened daily between 3pm and 7pm. Here you can use the bio sauna, Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, steam room and rest area free of charge. If the weather is bad we are happy to switch the sauna on for you earlier. Please let us know at reception. Our relaxation are is a place for peace and rest which is why children under the age of 16 are not allowed in after 4pm.
TRAVEL CANCELLATION INSURANCE
Something can always happen – illness, work etc. In order to avoid any unpleasant situations and hassle, we recommend taking out holiday cancellation and curtailment insurance with Europäische Reiseversicherung.
Cancellation is, of course, free of charge up to 1 month prior to arrival! In the event of a later cancellation, the room price needs to be paid per person on the booking for every day for which the room has not been rebooked.
Safes are available in all rooms, either with electronic code entry or wall-mounted key safes (these are available from reception). If your electronic safe has been locked again by your room’s previous occupant, we can of course open it manually. Just call reception on direct dial 9.
Glaciers, three thousand metre peaks and over half a year’s skiing fun.
In a place where the snow does not even melt in the summer, you certainly don’t need to worry about the winter. The two glaciers above Sölden already indicate that you can expect the best conditions all through the winter. You can ski in Sölden for more than half the year. The two glaciers – Rettenbach and Tiefenbachferner – open as early as October and can be skied right through until May. A short while later the whole ski resort follows suit and thus there is nothing to prevent you skiing right from the door of Hotel Alpenfriede. The two glaciers cover 20km2 in the ski resort. The two glaciers are linked by the highest road tunnel in Europe, as well as by a ski tunnel at 3,240 metres. 10 lifts give access to 37 kilometres of pistes.
Moreover, the season’s opener to the Ski World Cup takes place here on the Rettenbach glacier every year. Even if the snow doesn’t fall, there is snow: Just like everywhere else, even Sölden has a little extra help sometimes. It may be far rarer – the altitude itself at up to over 3,000 metres ensures there is snow – but it is all the more professional for that: With 3 reservoirs and over 300 snow canons, the cold turns water and air into snow, to ensure your winter sports fun.
Snow chains and winter tyres are indispensable for your journey to Hochsölden in winter. If it snows, snow chains are mandatory on the Hochsölden road. Make sure therefore, that you have put on your winter tyres and that you carry snow chains.
The correct use of snow chains
Never put on snow chains before? Or you’re not sure which snow chains to buy? The Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club ÖAMTC has information for you about the proper use of snow chains.
Important information about using snow chains
Snow chains are NO REPLACEMENT for winter tyres. On icy roads in particular, winter tyres deliver better results; snow chains do not grip well on ice.
Test your snow chains before using them for real on the road.
Please note that fitting them is harder in severe weather conditions.
Check the fir of your snow chains with the dimensions of your winter tyres.
Always check the chain tension. Snow chains which are fitted too loosely (including quick mount systems) can damage brake hoses or ABS sensors.
SUper ski pass and LIFT PASS
Naturally you have the convenience of buying your lift passes in Hochsölden. You can buy your entrance tickets to the Sölden ski world at the Rotkogel lift ticket office, at the end of the first run. Conveniently, you can pay in cash or with a credit or debit card.
The new Ötz Valley Super Skipass combines 356 kilometres of pistes, 90 lifts and six ski resorts in one pass. For 3-day passes or longer, winter sports enthusiasts can choose between well-known destinations such as Sölden and Obergurgl/Hochgurgl as well as particularly family-friendly resorts like Hochoetz-Kühtai and three other ski resorts (Niederthai, Gries and Vent) in the Ötz Valley.
After the successful premiere of a Sölden and Obergurgl/Hochgurgl combi ticket, the ticket network reached its final evolution stage for the 2018/2019 winter season. When purchasing a 3-day lift pass, guests can compile their own individual menu of pistes in Tyrol’s longest side valley. The valley-wide lift pass is valid in the resorts of Sölden, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, Hochoetz-Kühtai, Niederthai, Gries and Vent. (Source: www.oetztal.com/presse)
SKI BOOT WARMER
Even the best breakfast can’t make up for cold and wet ski boots. You’ll find our boot dryer in the ski cellar. It automatically operates in low temperatures and ensures that your ski boots slowly dry out over night and are pleasantly warm by the morning. Please make sure that you put your ski boots on the warmer with the toes pointing upwards, as illustrated below.
If you have any questions, the Sölden-Hochsölden ski school has an office here in Hochsölden in the second building on the right-hand side on the ground floor of Sport Brugger. You can also sign up for ski courses in Intersport Glanzer. From groups lessons for adults and children, private lessons, for several days or just a couple of hours? Just ask!

How do I phone...?
First lift the receiver and dial zero = outside line, then the relevant country code, area code without zero and then the telephone number e.g. 0 0043 163 000 00 00
Great Britain: 0044
The Netherlands: 0031
On request, the bill for all your telephone calls (even by several people from the same room) can be itemised separately, as the computer logs the telephone number, time, duration and fee for each call.
Internal calls are free - just dial the relevant room number.
You can also receive direct calls (without a switchboard): Hotel telephone number + your room number.
You have your own reserved table in the dining room for the duration of your stay. On your first evening in the hotel our serving staff will accompany you to your table. We are sure you will understand that certain tables cannot be reserved or promised in advance. Our window seats in particular are very popular. We don’t make any secret about the fact that these tables are given to guests who have stayed with us several times before. Of course, we will do our best to take your requests into account as far as possible.
If you would like to give a tip, we offer you the chance to do so when you settle your bill on departure. Tips are shared equally between all hotel staff. Of course, you can still leave a tip as usual in your room for the maid, or tip your waiter personally or leave a tip for the whole service or kitchen team. The restaurant invoices that are put on your breakfast table for checking have a “Tip” box after the amount in euros. Whatever you enter there is charged to your room and shared between the service and kitchen teams.
Our hotel has a modern TV and radio system which informs you about the current situation in the ski resort with the aid of live webcams.
We did not organise the programme layout and it therefore cannot be arranged according to your personal wishes. There are approx. 80 to 100 TV channels in the following languages: German, Dutch, Italian, French, Swiss TV, Spanish, Polish, Russian and, of course, English. The radio stations are also international.
The internet is not available via the TV.
Unfortunately, with so much technology, occasional disruptions cannot be totally avoided – if your TV set suddenly no longer works as it should, please contact us at reception (you can also use direct dial 9). We will resolve the problem as quickly as we can.
You can’t imagine how many tonnes of towels are washed unnecessarily in hotels all over the world and what huge quantities of detergent therefore pollute our precious water. We manage the towel issue in the way you are probably already used to. You decide: Towels on the floor or in the bath or shower means: please change them!
Towels on the towel rail means: I will use them again!
Your ski in - ski out Hotel Alpenfriede is right in the middle of the ski resort in Hochsölden. Nothing could be better than spending your skiing holiday here. NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES
You are welcome to borrow Austrian and regional daily and weekly newspapers from reception. Please bring them back again. Please note that they are not usually delivered before about 1pm. Other magazines and periodicals are available to you in the café area. Various newspapers such as the German Bild, FAZ or Dutch Telegraph can be obtained from Intersport Glanzer across the road.
